About us

Better Workplaces Consulting & Advisory was started by David Pich to help businesses do better and leaders be better.

As the author of two bestselling books on leadership – Leadership Matters. 7 skills of very successful leaders and Leading Well. 7 attributes of very successful leaders – David has been passionate about improving leadership practice since he graduated from Cambridge University with a Masters in 1995 and joined the HR team at Cadbury Schweppes. He sees a clear, irrefutable link between better leaders and better workplaces.

David has more than 30years’ experience in leadership roles at Cadbury Schweppes, Hewlett-Packard, PwC, CanTeen and the Institute of Managers and Leaders Australia and New Zealand. He has been the Chief Executive of four organisations from a start-up medical research foundation to one of the world’s oldest and most reputable leadership institutes.

Whilst he was the Chief Executive & Head of People and Culture at the Institute of Managers and Leaders Australia and New Zealand for six years, David advocated for sound leadership and for the development of the ‘intentional leader’ – a phrase that he coined.

He remains a much sought after local and international speaker on leadership and corporate culture and he has delivered leadership keynote addresses and seminars right across Australia, as well as throughout Asia and Europe. David has shared a stage with noted international speakers on leadership such as Simon Sinek and has interviewed numerous leaders around the world including Alan Joyce, Nobel Peace Prize recipient Kailash Satyarthi, Mr Adi Godrej, Cobus DeSwardt from Transparency International and others.

At IML ANZ, David successfully implemented the much talked about ‘4-Day Week’ across the business. Called ‘Gift of Time’, this defining project proved to have a profound, positive impact on IML’s business performance, culture and employee wellbeing. David maintains that flexible working practices must be the platform on which corporate strategy and the modern workplace is built.

David currently holds the position of Adjunct Associate Professor at Griffith University Business School, where he specializes in leadership and corporate culture.

He also serves as the Co-Chair of the prestigious Intensive Care Foundation of Australia and New Zealand, the President of the Bulimba State School P&C and the Coach of ‘the Steinies’; an under-7 all girls’ soccer team – a role he ranks as ‘without doubt the toughest leadership gig I’ve ever had’
